Dolphins Make a Move: Requesting an Interview with Packers' Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley
The Miami Dolphins are on the hunt for a new head coach, and they've set their sights on Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Dolphins made a formal request for an interview with Hafley, who has an impressive coaching resume. This move comes as the Packers' season ended with a loss to the Chicago Bears, opening the door for assistant coaches to be poached by other teams.
Hafley's journey in coaching began in 2001 as the running backs coach at Worcester Polytechnic. He then transitioned to the defensive side of the ball, taking on roles at the University of Albany and several other colleges. In 2012, he joined the NFL as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and his career skyrocketed from there. He moved up to defensive backs coach, worked with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers, and even returned to college as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Ohio State.
The Dolphins' interest in Hafley is not surprising, given their recent coaching changes. They fired Mike McDaniel and hired Jon-Eric Sullivan as their new general manager, creating a connection between the two coaches. Sullivan and Hafley's shared time in Green Bay is an obvious tie that could benefit the Dolphins.
But the Dolphins aren't stopping there. They've also interviewed Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, and former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. The list doesn't end there; they're expected to meet with former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator/former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh. With such a diverse list of candidates, the Dolphins are leaving no stone unturned in their search for the perfect coach.
The Dolphins' proactive approach to finding a new head coach is a testament to their commitment to excellence. As they continue their search, the football world awaits to see who will be the next leader of the Miami Dolphins.
