Black Health and Wellness Immunization Clinics: Nova Scotia's Mobile Unit Initiative (2026)

Mark your calendars! Black Health and Wellness Immunization Clinics are coming to your area, offering essential vaccinations and support for the African community. But here's where it gets controversial... Are these clinics enough to address the unique health challenges faced by Black and African Nova Scotians? Let's dive in and explore the details.

During African Heritage Month, the Public Health Mobile Unit is collaborating with the Advisory Committee for Black Public Health to bring culturally sensitive healthcare to the community. These clinics provide a safe and familiar space for Black and African Nova Scotians to receive vaccinations and ask questions. Although these clinics cater to a specific cultural group, everyone is welcome to attend, and interpretation support will be available.

The following services will be offered at all clinics:

  • COVID-19 & Influenza Vaccines (6 months +)
  • Shingles & Pneumococcal Vaccines (65+)
  • RSV Vaccine (75+)
  • Varicella (Chickenpox) Vaccine
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccine (MMR)
  • Measles, Mumps Rubella, Varicella Vaccine (MMRV)
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria Vaccine (Td)
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccine (Tdap)
  • COVID-19 & Influenza Tests
  • Healthcare Navigation

You can book appointments for COVID-19, Influenza, and RSV vaccines, as well as COVID-19 and influenza tests. The remaining vaccines and services are drop-in only, with appointments becoming available a few days before each clinic.

Here's where it gets interesting: While these clinics offer a valuable service, some argue that they may not be enough to address the systemic health disparities faced by Black and African communities. What do you think? Are these clinics a step in the right direction, or is more needed to ensure equitable access to healthcare for all?

Over the next two weeks, the following Black Health and Wellness Immunization Clinics will be held:
